3rd Gen Tundra Muffler Pipe Install Guide (2022+)

This guide covers both the Muffler Delete Pipe and the High-Clearance Muffler Replacement Pipe for the 2022 and newer 3rd Gen Toyota Tundra. Both install the same way: one cut on the factory pipe, a slip joint with a band clamp at the front, the factory 2-bolt flange at the rear, and hanger rods that go into the factory rubber isolators. No welding.

What is in the box

  • The pipe (with the Stainless Bros 17in oval muffler on the replacement version)
  • Band clamp for the front slip joint
  • Stainless 2-bolt flange welded on the rear of the pipe
  • 1/2in stainless hanger rods welded on

Tools

  • Jack and jack stands, ramps, or a lift
  • Something to cut 3in exhaust tubing cleanly
  • Socket set for the rear flange nuts and the band clamp
  • Tape measure and a marker
  • Penetrating oil and a pry bar for the rubber hangers

Step 1: Get under the truck safely

Lift the rear of the truck and support it on jack stands, or use ramps or a lift. Let the exhaust cool before you start.

Step 2: Mark the cut, 1.5in ahead of the stock muffler

Find the stock muffler. Measure 1.5in forward of the muffler body on the factory inlet pipe and mark it all the way around. The new pipe's slip joint slides over this cut end, so the cut needs to be square. Take your time here.

Step 3: Cut the factory pipe

Cut on your mark. Deburr the outside edge so the slip joint slides on without hanging up.

Step 4: Unbolt the rear flange and pull the stock muffler

Unbolt the factory 2-bolt flange behind the muffler. Soak the rubber hanger isolators with penetrating oil and work the muffler hanger rods out of them. Keep the stock muffler. Both of our pipes are reversible, so you can put the factory muffler back on if you ever sell the truck.

Step 5: Hang the new pipe

Slide the band clamp onto the slip joint loosely. Slide the front of the new pipe over the cut factory pipe, push the hanger rods into the factory rubber isolators, and bolt the rear 2-bolt flange to the factory flange. Leave everything finger tight for now.

Step 6: Align, then tighten

The slip joint is what lets you dial in the fit. Rotate and slide the pipe until it is centered in the tunnel with even clearance to the frame, driveshaft, and heat shields. Then tighten the rear flange nuts, tighten the band clamp, and check that nothing touches.

Step 7: Start it and check for leaks

Start the truck and feel around the slip joint and the rear flange for exhaust pulses. If the slip joint leaks, loosen the band clamp, re-seat it over the center of the joint, and retighten. Take a short drive, then recheck the clamp and flange nuts once everything has heat cycled.
