How to Measure Exhaust Tip Size: Inlet, Outlet, and Length

Ordering an exhaust tip comes down to three numbers. Get them right and the tip slips on, clamps down, and looks like it belongs there. Here is how to take each measurement.

1. Inlet: the end that slips over your tailpipe

The inlet is the small end of the tip. It slides over the outside of your tailpipe and is held by a clamp, so the number you need is the outside diameter of the tailpipe where the tip will sit.

  • Use a tape measure or calipers across the pipe at its widest point.
  • Measure the pipe itself, not a flared end or a muffler outlet collar.
  • Match that number to the inlet option on the product page.

Our stainless tips are offered with inlets of 2.36in, 2.5in, 2.75in, 3in, 4in, and 5in. Our titanium tips are offered with inlets of 2in, 2.5in, 2.75in, and 3in. If your tailpipe is between sizes, add a note at checkout or reach out and we will build to it.

2. Outlet: the visible end

The outlet is the large end you see from behind the vehicle. It is a style choice, not a fitment measurement. Bigger outlets read as more aggressive, smaller outlets read as clean and factory-plus.

  • Stainless outlets: 3in, 3.5in, 4in, 5in, and 6in.
  • Titanium outlets: 3in, 3.5in, 4in, and 5in.

A common approach is to go one or two sizes larger on the outlet than the inlet, but any listed combination can be built.

3. Overall length

Length decides how far the tip sticks out past the bumper. Measure from where the tip will start on the tailpipe to where you want the mouth to end, and put that number in the order notes. We build stainless tips to the length you specify.

Custom sizes
